Goal #1: Advance clinical and translational science

The Institute of Translational Science (ITHS) is putting out a Request for Ideas for high impact translational science projects that address unmet needs or generate innovation in the Pacific Northwest. Major points of emphasis include unique strengths or challenges in the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI) region, and a focus on translational science, not strictly translational research.&nbsp;Selected project will be included in UM1 grant submission in 2025, receiving potential direct costs between $125,000 – $500,000 per year for 2-3 years...&nbsp;Read more and learn about how to submit your idea <a href="https://www.iths.org/iths-rfi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>.&nbsp;

The NYULH CTSI will be joined by&nbsp;Joseph Ravenell, M.D., Associate Professor of Population Health and Medicine,&nbsp;Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at NYU&nbsp;Grossman&nbsp;School of Medicine and&nbsp;Faven Araya, M.P.H., Dr.P.H.(c),&nbsp;Community Engagement and Relations Manager,&nbsp;Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health for a panel where we will discuss&nbsp;heritage, culture, Black History&nbsp;month and the importance of representation and community partnerships. On leap day, Feb. 29, the&nbsp;<a href="https://redcap.musc.edu/surveys/?s=E74HJ8YXLHJHXP94" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Rare Disease Symposium</a>&nbsp;will welcome researchers and patient advocates from across the state at Segra Park in downtown Columbia, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a virtual option available for those who can’t attend in person. Presenters will offer the latest research on rare diseases and explore the unmet needs of the rare disease community in South Carolina. The symposium is being organized by the state’s Rare Disease Advisory Council (RDAC) as an important first step in making a quantum leap forward in rare disease research and patient care.&nbsp;RDACs are an initiative of the&nbsp;<a href="https://rarediseases.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">National Organization for Rare Disorders</a>&nbsp;and intended to make state governments more aware of the needs of people with rare diseases so that they can address barriers to their treatment and care.&nbsp;The RDAC’s diverse statewide membership, including members from research universities, state agencies, healthcare organizations and insurers, ensures that the right players have been brought together to meet the needs of the rare disease community.
