Our First Journey Around the Sun

By: Michael Kurilla, M.D., Ph.D., NCATS Director of the Division of Clinical Innovation

December 13, 2019

Next month will mark our 1-year anniversary of the Ansible. Throughout the past year, we covered numerous topics of interest related to translational science and the CTSA Consortium. These ranged from program related activities and CTSA Program meeting “decompressions” to newly developed structures with our Enterprise Committees, Working Groups and Discussion Forums. We also covered key topics and research priorities in rural health, team science, AI/Digital health, N-of-1 trials, workforce development, data interoperability, and equitable access to translational research.  We hope the topics discussed generated additional discussions, activities and collaborations around those key areas.

All in all, we have had a very busy and exciting year. Our goal of getting timely and focused information to the consortium has hopefully been achieved. Of course, there is always room for improvement. In our December issue, we added a new feature on my intro section which will now include a shorter introduction and allow readers the option to “Read more.” Also, all of my intro sections will now be stored and accessible through the CLIC website under “Mike’s Blog.”

As we begin a New Year, we would like to hear from you and get your feedback about the Ansible: good, bad and/or ugly. For 2020, our mission remains to provide readers with real-time and focused information.  We hope, so far, you have enjoyed our journey and look forward to your feedback.

In closing we would like to welcome our new CTSA Steering Committee members and take this opportunity to thank our current and former SC members for all their work and dedication.

Happy Holidays to all!

Parting thought: The same boiling water that softens the potato, hardens the egg. It’s about what you’re made of, not the circumstances.
