In a groundbreaking step for behavioral health research, Deanna Kaplan, Ph.D., Departments of Spiritual Health and Preventive Medicine at Emory University, has partnered with <a href="https://georgiactsa.org/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Georgia Clinical &amp; Translational Science Alliance’s</a> <a href="https://georgiactsa.org/research/commercialization/apphatchery.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppHatchery</a> to develop <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fabla-audio-diary-kit/id6462336933" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Fabla</a>, a mobile app that simplifies the way researchers collect real-world data. Designed to capture voice entries from users throughout their daily lives, Fabla offers a convenient and secure method to track emotional and psychological experiences in real time.&nbsp;Fabla is the first smartphone application of its kind to enable researchers to gather speech biomarkers—vocal indicators linked to mental health—directly from participants in their natural environments. <a href="https://school.wakehealth.edu/faculty/h/jaime-m-hughes" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jaime Hughes, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.S.W.</a>, <a href="https://school.wakehealth.edu/faculty/n/barb-nicklas" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Barb Nicklas, Ph.D.</a>, and team are making a difference in the lives of older adults, including those living in rural communities. WalkOn!, a group-based walking program, has shown to be an effective way to improve physical, cognitive, and social health.&nbsp;Originally supported by funding from The Duke Endowment and, more recently, the <a href="https://ctsi.wakehealth.edu/about-ctsi/ctsa-programs/clinical-and-translational-science-pilot-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Wake Forest CTSI’s 2024-2025 Science of Translation Pilot Award</a>, WalkOn! has grown into a powerful initiative.
