Nicholas Shaheen, M.D., M.P.H., has been named PI and director of the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute. Dr. Shaheen, who has been acting as Co-PI since 2020, assumed the expanded role after John Buse, M.D., Ph.D., stepped down as Co-PI.&nbsp;Dr. Buse has been an integral part of NC TraCS since its inception. She has made signal contributions to our understanding of pathogenetic mechanisms and novel therapeutic targets in proteinuric kidney disease.&nbsp; In her talk entitled, “Using a 3B approach to translate discoveries: from Bedside to Bench and Back,” she will share insights into harmonizing expectations between academia, industry, community and patient foundations to advance successful translation from discovery to clinical applications. As an example, she will review the target identification and drug discovery effort that led to the invention and development of a novel agent for the treatment of kidney disease that is currently being tested in phase 2 trials. Join us on September 9, 2024 at 5 p.m. ET for the N3Community Forum, where Kathryn Bingman, Vice President of Interoperability Adoption at eHealth Exchange, will provide a comprehensive overview of TEFCA, including the current status and future developments, as well as implications for access to clinical data. The presentation will be followed by a live Q&amp;A session.&nbsp;The <a href="https://www.healthit.gov/topic/interoperability/policy/trusted-exchange-framework-and-common-agreement-tefca" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA)</a> is an initiative based out of the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology that originated after the passing of the <a href="https://www.healthit.gov/topic/oncs-cures-act-final-rule" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act)</a>.
