Zainab Mahmoud, M.D., M.Sc. Funds her K23

Congratulations to PROUD-MED Scholar Zainab Mahmoud, M.D., M.Sc. (Internal Medicine, Cardiology) on the funding of her K23 “Improving Maternal Cardiovascular Outcomes Through the Implementation of a Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy Bundle in Nigeria,” 1K23HL173684-01.

 

The award, funded through the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, seeks to mitigate postpartum blood pressure in Nigeria–which “has the highest burden of maternal mortality globally with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) contributing significantly to these deaths, as well as posing long-term risks for adverse cardiovascular health.” Through this five year career development award, Dr. Mahmoud will be on the path to achieving her goal of becoming an independent physician-scientist with expertise in global cardio-obstetrics.
