Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training (CCTST) at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center - K Scholars (KL2/CT2) Career Development Program
On February 13, 2024, the City of Cincinnati announced that the University of Cincinnati Health (UC Heath) and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) are the recipients of an initial one-year $600,000 grant for a hospital-based violence intervention and prevention program. This program’s aim is to provide comprehensive ongoing support for youth and young adult victims of violence.
Together, UC Health and CCHMC will create a joint hospital-based violence intervention program using a data-driven approach to ensure victims of violence and their families are receiving critical wraparound services and support.
Center for Clinical & Translational Science & Training (CCTST) K Scholar, Meera Kotagal, M.D., M.P.H., Director of Trauma Services at CCHMC and co-Principal Investigator for the grant, represented CCHMC at a news conference announcing the awarding of the grant.
“Firearm-related injury is the leading cause of death for children in the United States, causing significant suffering for children and their families,” said Dr. Kotagal. “We welcome the opportunity to work with our adult Level I trauma center colleagues at UC Medical Center to build an infrastructure addressing the comprehensive post-injury needs of youth, young adults, their families and communities impacted by gun violence.”
