Goal #4: Improve clinical research

Date: September 11 - 12, 2024Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ETLocation: Turner Concourse &amp; Auditorium 720 Rutland Ave, Baltimore, MD 21205&nbsp;This two day in-person symposium, sponsored by the <a href="https://ictr.johnshopkins.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical &amp; Translational Research</a>, provides an educational forum for research colleagues across the nation to share their successful tools, strategies and insights on digital or community-engaged approaches to increase diverse participation in clinical and translational research.&nbsp;Attendees will include researchers, recruitment teams, and recruitment/engagement specialists from across the country!&nbsp;The registration fee is $350 ($300 for those presenting posters). Goal #5: Provide a national resource for public health needs

Previous research has found that over 80 percent of people with <a href="https://nyulangone.org/news/almost-90-percent-people-opioid-use-disorder-not-receiving-lifesaving-medication" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">opioid use disorder (OUD) do not receive evidence-based, lifesaving medications</a>. Although access to these medications is better in New York City than elsewhere in the United States, more than 100,000 people in the United States continue to die from drug overdoses each year.&nbsp;To help close this alarming treatment gap, researchers at New York University (NYU) Grossman School of Medicine partnered with the New York City public hospital system to investigate if a program offering addiction care to patients with a <a href="https://nyulangone.org/conditions/addiction" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">substance use disorder</a> while they are in the hospital could lead to better uptake of <a href="https://nyulangone.org/conditions/addiction/treatments/treatment-programs-for-addiction" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OUD treatment</a> after discharge…&nbsp;Read the full article <a href="https://nyulangone.org/news/patients-hospitals-inpatient-addiction-services-were-likelier-start-continue-lifesaving-medication-treat-opioid-use-disorder-after-discharge" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">here</a>.
