Science of Clinical Investigation (SOCI) Summer Course: Database Design and Implementation in Clinical Research

Date: July 15 – July 18 and July 22 – 25 (all 8 sessions)

Time: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Zoom  

Database Design Instructors: Khalil Ghanem and Scott Carey

Course Delivered via Zoom

 

Students will acquire basic concepts of database design for clinical and basic research.  

 

This course provides an introduction to using REDCap and will cover the following topics:  

 

  • Development of data collection forms  
  • Building “classic” and “longitudinal” projects using REDCap  
  • Modifying a database as a project changes  
  • Using REDCap as a workflow management tool  
  • Data quality control  
  • Exporting data to statistical packages  
  • Data security

 

SOCI Training Program

 

The Johns Hopkins Science of Clinical Investigation (SOCI) Training Program is a four course training series designed to prepare clinicians and scientists to participate in multidisciplinary clinical research. Participants will complete four courses covering the main disciplines of clinical research including:  

 

  • Database Design  
  • Ethics  
  • Design of Clinical Studies  
  • Quantitative Analysis  
  • Outcomes Research  
  • Quality Improvement/ Knowledge Translation
