Dr. Benjamin Xu, M.D., Ph.D., will present the need for innovations in glaucoma care given the current disease burden and impending care crisis worldwide. He will discuss how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to automate diagnostic processes to help enhance the delivery of glaucoma care, specifically focusing on AI use cases and implementation efforts in the field of glaucoma. The first will focus on efforts to combine AI and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging to enhance the detection of angle closure, an important but under-detected risk factor for glaucoma. The second will focus on efforts to combine AI and telemedicine to standardize and streamline the detection of underserved patients with glaucoma in the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LAC DHS) system.
